Blood, Sweat & Beers
Some form of exercise is very important while losing weight. Not only because you burn calories but it helps motivate you and keep you on track. And getting to see all the hot chicks in the gym really is the icing on the cake (no cake for you!).
I’m no gym jockey but try to work out at least 4-5 times a week. While I’m trimming down the fat I do cardio first and foremost. The best thing (and possibly the only good thing) about being overweight is that we have higher metabolism than skinny guys and more muscle because we need to lug around our fat ass all over.
It’s import to know what you are doing at the gym and get as much as you can out of each session! If you’re taking time to do this you might as well do it as well as you can.
Some of the things that I’ll cover on these pages:
- How often should you go to the gym?
- Is it better to lift weights or do cardio to burn fat?
- Are there any health benefits to looking at girls at the gym
- Is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) the best thing since the Wonderbra?
- What are the biggest fitness myths (and man are there many out there!)?
Who am I to preach about fitness?
You won’t see any abs on my stomach (maybe one day). I guess I’m the typical guy, played some sports as a kid but stopped once I was a teenager as the pounds started piling on.
But for the last 5 years I’ve been getting into the whole gym thing. As I’ve been peeling away the fat I am more motivated in the gym.
Although I have been very focused on losing fat for the last months before that I had been more focused on building muscle (thinking that would burn the fat – more on that later). So for these last months my main concern has been to lose fat and keep the muscle I had.

Through this journey I’ve been several times to a personal trainer to learn the right technique and read a lot about training based on sound advice and scientific research.
Is it really necessary to join a gym to lose fat?
Well no. The most important thing is to start moving. It really doesn’t matter what you do as long as you do something. And once you start feeling lighter and seeing some results you will want to move more and it’s not unlikely that you’ll get so motivated that you’ll want to join a gym.
